Hi Sze Lok, great question. The question is probably slightly misleading. Sutra Neti is performed with a clean waxed string which is inserted through the nose and out through the mouth. The answer was false because it implies having the waxed string in and out through the two nostril. We will update the question to avoid such ambiguity. Thank you for pointing out.

Hello Kelly, you are right! They are pretty similar. Although we try to put meditation into different types, there are lots of similarity between different types. For Zazen, it originates from buddhism. We usually “sit” on a pillow in Zazan. We can sit in lotus pose, half lotus, or sit on a chair. We close our eyes. Then we bring our focus to our breathing. When our mind starts to wander, we notice, and we again bring our focus to our breath.

For mindfulness meditation, it means staying present and doing only one thing. You can do it either standing or sitting. You can focus on your food. Feel the food coming into your mouth, the taste, the smell, your saliva and how the food goes down to your stomach. Or you can do it even with your eyes open, gazing at a candle, looking at a sacred symbol etc. And of course you can also do it with your eyes closed and focus on your breathing (which is similar to Zazen).

Although we try to put meditation into different types, the main idea for all meditation is to be focused. So focus that you and the object that you are focusing on become one.

Hi Kelly, Sankalpa means intention. It is to turn your awareness inward to your heart’s highest intention. In yoga nidra, when your mind is completely relaxed, sankalpa may be written in your subconscious.

Hello Kelly, for Prana vayu, Prana means life force/ energy. We take prana mainly by breathing in and eating fresh food. Imagine when you breath in, air comes into your nostrils, down to your trachea and to your lung. It is a downward movement. When you eat, food in your mouth go down to your stomach. It is a downward movement. So Prana Vayu is a downward movement. But when you breath in, you expand your chest and your rib cage, with your shoulders slightly elevated to create an uplifting sensation. So a better way to say it is, Prana Vayu is a downward movement in order to create an uplifting sensation. Hope it clarifies!

Hi Anita, we have different variations of sun salutation. We described two variations here:

Traditional sun salutation:

1) Inhale reach arms up
2) Exhale forward fold
3) Inhale step right (left) foot back to low lunge
4) Hold breath, to plank
5) Exhale eight point pose
6) Inhale cobra
7) Exhale downward dog
8) Inhale right (left) foot forward low lunge
9) Exhale left (right) foot forward, forward fold
10) Inhale arms up
11) Exhale prayer

Because the holding breath sometimes confuses beginner students, so we have another easier variations with adding a downward dog for exhale, so no holding breath here.

Easy variation:
1) Inhale reach arms up
2) Exhale forward fold
3) Inhale step right (left) foot back to low lunge
4) Exhale downward dog
5) Inhale plank
6) Exhale eight point pose
7) Inhale cobra
8) Exhale downward dog
9) Inhale right (left) foot forward low lunge
10) Exhale left (right) foot forward, forward fold
11) Inhale arms up
12) Exhale prayer

In any events, eight point pose is always exhale. A basic principle is that, when you go up, reach you arms up or come up, you inhale. When you go down, lower down, pushing back is it always exhale. So eight point pose should be exhale.
